08. COMPETITION RULES

8.1 The event shall be conducted in accordance with THE ATHLETICS COMPETITION AND TECHNICAL RULES 2025 approved by the Chinese Athletics Association (CAA), together with the latest amendments of World Athletics, THE WORLD ATHLETICS COMPETITION AND TECHNICAL RULES, THE WORLD ATHLETICS LABEL ROAD RACES REGULATIONS 2026, THE DISCIPLINARY MANAGEMENT REGULATIONS FOR ROAD RUNNING EVENTS and THE COMPILATION OF ROAD RUNNING MANAGEMENT DOCUMENTS issued by the CAA, as well as the Competition Regulations of this event.

8.2 The participation requirements for the 2026 National Marathon Championships shall be implemented in accordance with the Competition Regulations of the 2026 National Marathon Championships issued by CAA. Any other matters not covered for the 2026 National Marathon Championships will be announced in the form of a supplementary notice on the official website of China Marathon 15 days before the race.

8.3 All athletes shall wear their race bib(s) CORRECTLY during the event. Elite Athletes and athletes of the National Marathon Championships shall wear one bib on the chest (with timing chip) and one on the back (without timing chip) respectively, while Mass Runners shall wear one bib on the chest (with timing chip) only. Bib numbers must not be covered by clothing, waist bags or other items. Any conduct that causes a race bib to be folded, covered, torn or damaged will result in immediate disqualification, and the athlete will be excluded from the roll-call, ineligible to obtain race results and finisher items. Any unauthorized alteration, fabrication, transfer or sale of race bibs will be subject to penalties in accordance with the Competition Regulations of this event.

8.4 Roll Call

8.4.1 Roll Call Time: 05:30-07:10 a.m.

8.4.2 Please arrange your travel time reasonably and arrive at the start early for roll call. After entering the venue, athletes shall complete both bib number verification and face recognition or ID verification before entering the corresponding assembly zone. Elite Athletes and athletes of the National Marathon Championships shall bring the original valid personal ID and report to the designated roll-call area on the north side of the Memorial Hall in Tian'anmen Square 40 minutes before the race start.

8.4.3 For the safety of all athletes, baby buggies are not allowed to participate in this event, and baby buggies are prohibited from entering the start/finish area and the race course.

8.5 Start Zone Division

This event adopts the assembly order of Elite Athletes, athletes of the National Marathon Championships, and Mass Runners. Mass Runners shall be divided into corrals for roll call and assembly according to their competition results, with a spacing of 5 meters between each zone.

8.6.A single starting signal (gun start) for all athletes will be adopted.

8.7 Timing Method

8.7.1 A chip-timing system will be employed for this event, and timing chips will be provided for all athletes. The chips will be distributed together with the bibs at the race package collection site.

8.7.2 Timing carpets are placed at the start line, every 5 km mark, at the 21.0975 km mark, at turning points, at the farthest point of the course and at the finish line. Athletes must pass through all timing carpets during the race. Athletes who finish within the cut-off time but fail to record a time at any timing point will be ineligible for official ranking. The ranking of non-prize-winning athletes shall be based on net time.

8.8 Cut-off Time

To ensure the safety of athletes during the race, segmented cut-off times will be set along the course at each kilometer mark. After the cut-off time is reached, the timing carpets at the corresponding kilometer mark will stop working, and the corresponding road section will reopen to public traffic. Athletes who fail to reach the corresponding kilometer mark within the cut-off time must exit the course to avoid danger. Any accidents caused by failure to exit the course in accordance with the relevant regulations shall be borne by the athlete themselves, including corresponding legal and compensation liabilities. Athletes who exit the course can take the nearest sweep bus at the sweep bus pick up point along the course, or take public transportation to the finish area to collect their bags.

8.9 Bag Deposit and Claim Service

8.9.1 Bag Deposit and Claim Procedure

Athletes shall deposit their personal belongings at the in the designated area at the start with their event bib number (Please carefully check the baggage truck number indicated on your bib number and deposit your belongings in the designated truck). Athletes are advised not to place valuables in the clothing bag (such as mobile phones, valid IDs, cash, keys, credit cards, electronic devices, etc.). In case of damage or loss, the consequences shall be borne by the athlete themselves. Athletes shall use the transparent clothing bag provided by the event for bag storage. Any dangerous goods, prohibited items, liquids and beverage bottles, cans, folding bicycles, baby buggies and other items are prohibited from being brought into the start area.

The bag storage service will close at 07:15 on the race day. Please arrive early and well-arrange your time. If the personal belongings are not deposited in accordance with the time, location and method designated by the organizing committee, the organizing committee shall not be liable for the loss of the deposited items. On the race day, athletes shall arrive at the designated area at the finish to collect their deposited items before 14:30 (Please carefully check the baggage tent number indicated on your bib and pick up your belongings in the designated tent). If not collected on the same day, the items can be collected at the event organizing committee within one week after the race with the event bib. After the expiration, the organizing committee will dispose of the items as unclaimed.

On the race day, the organizing committee recommends that athletes who do not use bag deposit, after completing bib number verification, facial recognition or ID document verification, and security check, may proceed directly to the corral through the dedicated channel for athletes without bag deposit.

Note 1: Elite Athletes and athletes of the National Marathon Championships may collect their own pre-submitted personal refreshments from the red tables marked with sequential numbers and/or their team names at the front section of the refreshment stations set up for this event, in accordance with their assigned table order number.

Note 2: Mass runners are strictly prohibited from taking any refreshment items from the red tables designated for personal refreshments. Violation of this rule will result in disqualification from the event.

8.11 Environmental Hygiene

8.11.1 The organizing committee will set up clearly marked raincoat and garbage disposal points in the start/finish area and along the race course.

8.11.2 The organizing committee will set up mobile toilets in the start/finish area and along the race course (at 1km, 2km, 3km, 4km marks, and every 2.5km from the 5km mark to the finish).

8.11.3 Athletes shall not urinate or defecate in non-toilet areas at the start/finish area and along the race course, and shall not randomly discard raincoats, insulation blankets, bottles, cans and other items and garbage. During the race, athletes shall abide by the relevant management regulations of Beijing Municipality on garbage classification, compete in a civilized manner, and jointly protect the environment.

8.11.4 Athletes shall submit a Participation Commitment signed by themselves before collecting their race package (It may not be signed by another person on the athlete’s behalf ).

8.12 Medical Aid

8.12.1 The organizing committee will set up fixed medical stations at the start/finish area and along the race course. Mobile AED medical rescue service staff and medical service volunteers will be deployed along the course to assist with medical aid and maintain race order. Athletes can request medical help or rescue services from the event medical staff at any time.

8.12.2 The official medical staff of the event shall have the right to decide whether to suspend an athlete from continuing the race according to the athlete's health status. If the athlete does not follow the dissuasion of the medical staff and insists on participating in the race, all consequences and liabilities arising therefrom shall be borne by the athlete themselves.

8.12.3 If an athlete loses consciousness during the race, they shall automatically authorize the organizing committee to take all necessary first aid measures, including but not limited to CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), AED (automated external defibrillator), and transportation by ambulance. Except for the intentional or gross negligence of the relevant staff, all consequences and legal liabilities arising from the first aid shall be borne by the athlete themselves, and shall not give rise to any liability on the part of the medical staff, first-aid volunteers, or the event organizing committee involved in providing such assistance.

8.13 All athletes (including retired athletes) shall strictly comply with the relevant requirements of the WORLD ANTI-DOPING CODE and THE ANTI-DOPING RULES issued by the General Administration of Sport of China. In accordance with the relevant provisions of THE WORLD ATHLETICS LABEL ROAD RACES REGULATIONS 2026, THE COMPILATION OF ROAD RUNNING MANAGEMENT DOCUMENTS OF CAA and THE ADMINISTRATIVE MEASURES FOR ANTI-DOPING IN ROAD RUNNING EVENTS OF CAA, doping control will be conducted on athletes in this event.

8.14 For other specific requirements and arrangements of the race, athletes may refer to the official electronic manual.



09. REGISTRATION

9.1 Registration Eligibility

9.1.1 Age Requirement: Athletes must be at least 20 years old in the year of participation.

Athletes aged 65 and above in the year of participation shall strengthen their self-assessment of health status, and shall submit a Participation Commitment signed by themselves and their family members (including spouse, parents, adult children or other adult close relatives living together).

9.1.2 Performance Requirement: To register for the Bank of China Beijing Marathon 2026, athletes shall have 1 marathon result or 2 half marathon results within 24 months before the registration deadline (results from online events are not accepted).

9.1.3 Health Requirement

(1) Athletes shall submit a  Participation Commitment signed by themselves before collecting their race package.

(2) The organizing committee recommends that all athletes undergo a medical examination at a Grade 2A hospital or above before the race. The main test items include blood pressure, routine electrocardiogram or 24-hour dynamic electrocardiogram or treadmill exercise test (any one of the three is acceptable). If the athlete has hypertension or significant electrocardiogram abnormalities (such as significant bradycardia), a cardiac ultrasound test shall be added. Electrocardiogram and cardiac ultrasound cannot replace each other. Athletes shall conduct self-assessment based on the examination report, confirm that their physical condition is suitable for long-distance running, and then register for the race. Any personal injury and property loss caused by personal physical reasons during the race shall be borne by the athlete themselves.

(3) Marathon is a high-intensity, high-load competitive sport with certain sports risks. Improper participation may cause varying degrees of physical injury, or even endanger life. Therefore, participating athletes shall be in good health and have the basis of regular running exercise or systematic training.

Individuals with the following diseases or conditions are not suitable to participate:

① People with congenital heart disease, rheumatic heart disease, myocarditis and other heart diseases.

② People with hypertension and cerebrovascular diseases.

③ People with coronary artery disease and severe arrhythmia.

④ People who feel or felt moderate chest pain or angina during mild activity.

⑤ People with diabetes with excessive or low blood sugar.

⑥ People who have had a cold or abnormal body temperature within two weeks before the race day.

⑦ People who drank alcohol or had insufficient sleep the night before the race.

⑧ Pregnant women.

⑨ People with other diseases not suitable for sports.

Note: Athletes shall take primary responsibility for their own health, and strengthen self-assessment of their health status. Before the race, athletes must always understand their own health status, especially sudden illnesses such as colds, fevers, viral infections before the race, as well as their past medical history: history of coronary heart disease (especially myocardial infarction), history of hypertension and family history of sudden death.

9.2 Registration Method

9.2.1 The registration method for athletes of the 2026 National Marathon Championships shall be detailed in THE COMPETITION REGULATIONS OF THE 2026 NATIONAL MARATHON CHAMPIONSHIPS issued by CAA.

9.2.2 Mass Runners

(1) Mass Runners can register online through the official website of Beijing Marathon or the official cooperative APP. Group registration is not accepted. If the number of applicants exceeds the limited quota, the qualification for participation will be determined by lottery. This event has guaranteed quotas, including performance-based guaranteed quotas and guaranteed quotas from Guangzhou Marathon.

(2) For specific registration methods and procedures, please refer to the Registration Notice published on the official website or official WeChat public account.

9.2.3 Invitational Athletes

(1) International Elite Athletes (International athletes that meet the event level standards and participation qualifications stipulated in the WORLD ATHLETICS LABEL ROAD RACES REGULATIONS): The organizing committee will carry out the invitation of International Elite Athletes in a fair, just and open manner in accordance with the relevant requirements for athlete invitation and management in the WORLD ATHLETICS LABEL ROAD RACES REGULATIONS 2026 and THE COMPILATION OF ROAD RUNNING MANAGEMENT DOCUMENTS OF CAA.

(2) Domestic Elite Athletes (athletes in the registered testing pool and testing pool of the Anti-Doping Center of the General Administration of Sport of China in the event year): Please download the Domestic Elite Athlete Registration Application Form from the official website of Bank of China Beijing Marathon 2026, fill it in and send it back to the organizing committee email (oc@beijing-marathon.com) before 18:00 on 22nd September, 2026 (Beijing Time). The organizing committee will screen or invite them directionally according to the elite athlete invitation plan, and the final result will be notified by email.

(3) Other Invitational Athletes: Non-elite athletes who have been specifically invited by the Organizing Committee to participate in the event.

9.2.4 Athletes with Disabilities

In accordance with the relevant requirements of THE NOTICE ON THE PARTICIPATION OF ATHLETES WITH DISABILITIES IN NATIONAL MARATHONS AND RELATED SPORTS EVENTS issued by CAA, the participation methods for athletes with disabilities in this event are explained as follows:

(1) Athletes with disabilities must meet the event registration eligibility, complete the registration through the official website of Beijing Marathon or the official cooperative APP. If the number of applicants exceeds the limited quota, athletes will participate in the lottery to determine the qualification for participation.

(2) There is no racing wheelchair division in this event, and racing wheelchairs are not allowed to participate. To ensure the safety of participating athletes, non-racing wheelchair athletes must follow the guidance of referees and volunteers to assemble at the end of all athlete groups and start safely and orderly.

Athletes with other types of disabilities (such as visual impairment, hearing impairment, intellectual disability, upper limb disability, etc.) will assemble and start together with mass runners in the corresponding corral according to the event assembly rules.

(3) To ensure the safety of all athletes, non-racing wheelchair athletes and visually impaired athletes must, after submitting the registration information, complete the athlete information report on the official website of Beijing Marathon in accordance with the requirements (see the Registration Notice for details).

Visually impaired athletes must be accompanied by a guide runner throughout the race. The guide runner must be an athlete who has successfully submitted the registration information and must complete the report and registration together (see the Registration Notice for details).

9.3 Registration Fee

9.3.1 Registration Fee: CNY 200 per person

9.3.2 The registration fee will not be refunded after successful registration, and the quota is limited to the registered athlete only and cannot be transferred.

9.4 Race Package Pick-up

9.4.1 After obtaining the participation qualification, the organizing committee will notify the athlete to inquire about their event bib number.

9.4.2 The organizing committee will provide athletes with race clothing, clothing bag, bib (with a timing chip attached on the back; please do not fold it to avoid damage) and other race items. The race items must be collected by the athlete in person with the original valid ID submitted during registration and relevant certificates, and cannot be collected by proxy.

If the athlete is unable to participate due to personal reasons and fails to collect the race items on time, the organizing committee will not provide the service of mailing the race items.



10. AWARDING METHOD

10.1 Ranking and Awards for National Marathon Championships

10.1.1 The top 8 finishers in the Men's and Women's Marathon will be ranked according to their results respectively. The top 3 will be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals respectively, and the top 8 can download the result certificate on the official website of CAA.

10.1.2 The top 3 finishers in the Men's and Women's events will be awarded CNY 30,000, CNY 20,000 and CNY 10,000 respectively. The performance standard for men's award is 2:11:30, and the performance standard for women's award is 2:29:30. Those who fail to meet the performance standard will not be awarded.

10.1.3 Athletes of the Championships can participate in the ranking and prize money of Beijing Marathon, and the event prize money and the Championships prize money can be obtained cumulatively.

Note: If an athlete wins both the ranking prize and the ranking prize for Chinese athletes, the award will be issued according to the higher standard, and no cumulative payment will be made.

10.5 Beijing Marathon Ranking and Awarding Rules

Athletes who win the ranking prize in this event will be awarded according to the gun time ranking. If an athlete fails the doping test or is officially determined by the organizing committee to have violated the rules, their ranking and award will be revoked, and the ranking and award will be filled in sequentially.

10.6 All the above prize money shall be subject to a 20% personal income tax in accordance with the standards. In addition, in accordance with the WORLD ATHLETICS LABEL ROAD RACES REGULATIONS 2026, the top 8 men's and women's marathon athletes shall pay 2% of the prize money as the athletes' contribution to the anti-doping check fund. This amount will be directly deducted from the prize money by the organizing committee and paid to World Athletics.

10.7 The organizing committee will award a trophy and a medal to the top 3 finishers in the men's and women's marathon of Bank of China Beijing Marathon 2026; the top 3 finishers in the men's and women's marathon of National Marathon Championships; and the top 3 finishers among Chinese men's and women's athletes of Bank of China Beijing Marathon 2026.

10.8 The competition shoes worn by the award-winning athletes shall comply with the provisions of World Athletics on competition shoes for road running events, and the competition clothing worn shall comply with the provisions of World Athletics on clothing advertisements. The bib must be correctly worn in accordance with the regulations throughout the race. Any violation of the provisions will result in the cancellation of the race results. The relevant provisions can be inquired on the official website of World Athletics.

10.9 Athletes who finish the race within the cut-off time in accordance with the Competition Regulations can collect the finisher medal and finisher items with their bib. After the race, athletes can log in to the official website of the event or the official cooperative APP to download the result certificate, which includes split time, gun time, net time, etc.



11. SPORTSMANSHIP AND DISCIPLINE

11.1 All athletes shall comply with the relevant provisions on sportsmanship and discipline in THE SPORTS LAW OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA, THE ADMINISTRATIVE MEASURES FOR SPORTSMANSHIP AND DISCIPLINE IN SPORTS EVENTS issued by the General Administration of Sport of China, THE IMPLEMENTATION GUIDELINES ON SPORTSMANSHIP AND DISCIPLINE IN NATIONAL ATHLETICS COMPETITIONS and THE DISCIPLINARY MANAGEMENT REGULATIONS FOR ROAD RUNNING EVENTS issued by CAA.

11.2 Punishment Measures

The organizing committee will set up video surveillance at the start, every 5 km mark, 21.0975 km mark, turning points, the farthest point of the course and the finish line. During the race, if any of the following problems occur, or any of the sportsmanship and discipline violations covered in Article 10 of Chapter 4 of THE IMPLEMENTATION GUIDELINES ON SPORTSMANSHIP AND DISCIPLINE IN NATIONAL ATHLETICS COMPETITIONS occur, the staff and referees shall have the right to terminate the athlete's race, confiscate the bib of the violating athlete on the spot, and cancel their participation qualification. For athletes with the following behaviors, after the organizing committee officially confirms the violation after the race, penalties will be imposed according to the severity of the circumstances, including cancellation of the results of the Bank of China Beijing Marathon 2026, a ban of 1-5 years or a lifetime ban. For serious circumstances, CAA will impose additional penalties:

(1) Registering with false age or false identity, or having another person compete on one's behalf;

(2) Concealing physical illnesses to participate in the race;

(3) Unauthorized alteration, fabrication, transfer, sale of bibs, forgery of certificates or use of others' certificates to commit fraud;

(4) Failing to wear the designated competition clothing and wear the bib in accordance with the requirements;

(5) Failing to start in the specified starting order;

(6) Starting before the specified start time;

(7) Taking any vehicle to enter the course in violation of the regulations;

(8) Failing to run the entire course along the specified route, taking shortcuts, entering the course midway, or using other transportation to enter the course;

(9) Committing foul behaviors such as pushing, shoving, bumping, tripping other athletes during the race;

(10) Organizing group running to hinder other athletes from running;

(11) Repeatedly passing through the finish line in violation of the regulations to collect finisher items;

(12) Collecting finisher items without completing the entire course;

(13) Disobeying the instructions of the event staff;

(14) Abusing, fighting, causing disturbances during the race, and disrupting the race order;

(15) Engaging in uncivil behaviors such as public urination, littering, and smoking on the course;

(16) Competing passively and not actively during the race;

(17) Committing anti-doping violations;

(18) Making inappropriate remarks about the event, causing adverse effects;

(19) Other behaviors that violate the spirit of sportsmanship and morality;

(20) Other behaviors that violate the competition rules and regulations.

Among them, personnel who obtain participation qualifications through improper means (including but not limited to transfer, theft, resale), use non-official bibs to participate in the race, or have other violations, shall bear full responsibility for all consequences arising during the race. After the organizing committee verifies and confirms such violations, the relevant personnel will be banned from participating in the Beijing Marathon for life. For those with bad circumstances or causing certain negative social impact, the organizing committee will report to the relevant departments to pursue their legal responsibilities.



12. INSURANCE

12.1 Insurance will be provided for all athletes and staff in this event, based on the registration information. If the information is incorrect and leads to failure to obtain insurance, the consequences arising during the race shall be borne by the athlete themselves. Violators who participate in the race by proxy, run without registration, resell the quota, or use non-official bibs will not be eligible for insurance coverage.

12.2 Athletes agree and undertake to bear all costs incurred for any medical, medical or first aid treatment that is not during the race and/or not of an emergency nature due to physical reasons. After settling the above expenses with the hospital and other relevant parties by themselves, the athletes shall handle the insurance claim matters with the insurance company by themselves, and go through the insurance claim procedures in accordance with the relevant requirements, procedures. All documents, receipts, vouchers and other supporting materials required for insurance claims shall be kept by the athletes themselves and provided to the insurance company.
